STUDENT PROTEST MOVEMENT
2024-ONGOING

Documenting the student protest movement for an end to genocide in Gaza.

Since October, 7th of 2023, students have become vocal activists condemning the Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. Despite pressure from academic institutions, counter protesters, and law enforcement, peaceful protest from those sympathetic to Palestinian sovereignty has persisted. This is particularly surprising considering that in some cases students have faced academic discipline and even expulsion. In other instances, protesters have been doxxed, assaulted by law enforcement, and in some cases arrested.

CAMPUS DEMONSTRATIONS NATIONWIDE

Violent police response in Utah.

In April, 2024 at the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City, police responded to a nonviolent encampment organized by students and those sympathetic to the humanitarian disaster in Gaza.

While encampments at Harvard and Columbia have been extensively covered, protests across campuses nationwide have sometimes escaped the public eye. This is alarming considering the nature of the arrests in Utah, in which some protesters were dragged along the ground, stepped on, and beaten.

STUDENT PROTESTERS AT THE NATION'S CAPITAL

In protest there is collaboration between students and the public.

On April 5th, 2025, the "Hands Off" protests and marches took place nationwide. Following speeches at the National Mall in Washington, D.C, protesters marched to ICE's national headquarters. One of these groups of demonstrators was led by students from Harvard.

In America the movement calling for an end to genocide in Palestine was initiated primarily by students. Now that movement has grown to include large swathes of the general public.
